Match report 23rd September 2007 - Poole Town

Poole Town 1 v 7 RINGWOOD RANGERS

Team: Andrew, Craig, Karn, Nick, Liam, Zac, Charlie, Stefan, Glen, Matt, Sonny, Ashley, Jonathan and Mark.

On the first truly autumnal day of the season, Rangers visited Rossmore Leisure Centre to play newly promoted Poole Town. Rangers have had a poor start to the season even by their standards but chose this game in which to show some major improvement. As the rain fell almost in synchronization with the referees whistle, the visitors were quickly settled into their rhythm. They started more positively than they have for many matches and were quickly on top. With Andrew mostly a spectator, it took Rangers eleven minutes to break down a hardy home defence. Charlie won a header outside the penalty area and nodded it to Zac who finished neatly past a very competent Poole keeper. Within four minutes, Charlie again turned provider for Zac with an inch perfect pass from just inside his own penalty area. Zac beat the last two defenders with some trickery and forced the ball home to extend the visitors lead. Poole continued to battle well and the third goal only game from a piece of individual brilliance from Charlie who chipped the keeper from twenty yards to give the Ringwood team a 3-0 half time lead.

The second half began with Poole showing why they had earned promotion last season. They immediately fought their way back into the game almost straight from the kick off. A ball over the top caused a moment of indecision at the back and a Poole forward reacted quickly to give them some hope. However a surprise incident led to a fourth goal in the 44th minute. Ashley won a towering head deep in the Poole half and the ball fell to Zac. He was clearly surprised at the source of the headed ball and proceeded to hit his shot straight at the keeper. However, Karn was on hand to slot home the rebound. Just three minutes later, Zac turned provider when his precision pass left Ashley clear to strike the final blow to the home side.

With a little more than ten minutes to go, Charlie scored his second and Ringwood’s sixth with an old fashioned route one goal. Zac completed his hat trick in the closing minutes from the penalty spot after he had been brought down by the last defender in a mis-timed tackle. This should be a big confidence boost for Rangers as they played much more as a team and despite being beaten, Poole never gave up battling and on this showing, they will almost certainly pick up enough points to stay in this division. A good game played in an excellent spirit throughout.

Friendly Match – Ringwood Rangers U11 v Milford U11

September 17th, 2007

August 31st 2007 at Long Lane

Squad: Gideon Lax (captain), David Torr, George Tykocki, Elliot Lowen, Joe Derrick, Josh Perrett, Sam Jones, Eddie White, Lucas Cameron, Jack Cameron, Alistair Clapp, Harvey White

This game was a first chance for the team to play a match together for a full 60 minutes with the offside rule being applied. Milford were unable to field 11 players, so 10 a side was agreed.

From the kick off Ringwood broke quickly and Harvey White scored with a skilful run and finish. A dream start and one that brought smiles to all concerned! Milford pressured our defence for rest of the half, often bypassing our midfield with either long balls or quick passing and moving. Gideon, George and Alistair were outstanding with some neat interceptions to save the day. David, who was pressed into playing in goal at short notice, pulled off some good saves, but was powerless to stop Milford equalizing near the end of the half when Ringwood were caught napping and for once failed to mark properly.

Half time was a chance for the team to catch their breaths and a few were surprised at the energy needed to cover a larger pitch for the first time. Jack and Elliot came on for Josh and Alistair in midfield and defence respectively, with Lucas dropping into a 5-man midfield, leaving Harvey as the lone striker. This quickly paid dividends, stemming the flow through Ringwood’s often overworked midfield, and leading to Harvey breaking again and applying another expert finish.

Ringwood’s superior fitness now started to become evident with them dominating the game and pressuring Milford from all parts of the field. Eddie was making a number of good runs, and allied with Gideon’s quick throws Milford started conceding a number of corners. Only a combination of good luck and some poor finishing kept the scores the same, as Ringwood piled forward. However, such dominance, particularly in midfield with Sam, Josh and Joe starting to assert themselves, led to the inevitable goals. A scrappy exchange in the six yard box led to Josh bundling the ball over the line, and another outstanding run and finish from Harvey completed the scoring. A well deserved hat trick. When the whistle blew Ringwood were still looking for a fifth goal, but everybody was happy with a 4-1 result.

All in all a good performance, but coming to terms with offside both in defence and attack needs some further work! Many thanks to Milford for providing a good test, to the help of the parents in setting up the pitch, Ian White for running a line and to William Cameron for refereeing at short notice.

Man of the match: Harvey White

Match report 2nd September 2007 - Under 13

September 17th, 2007

New Milton Town Robins 4 v 2 Ringwood Rangers.

Team: Andrew, Liam, Karn, Sonny, Ashley, Zac, Stefan, Charlie, Glen, Matt, Jon and Craig.

On an overcast day which almost officially saw the end of Summer (Mickey was wearing his shirt),Rangers began their league season at Fawcett’s Field in New Milton.

The game was a fairly even affair with the two teams sharing much of the possession. Unfortunately there were noticeable differences between the sides. It seemed that New Milton had a greater desire for the ball and in time honoured fashion, the Ringwood team were usually absent from where the second ball seemed to land. This gave the opposition more time to use the ball more effectively.

Despite starting the stronger, Rangers went a goal down in the seventh minute when a long cross from the left evaded the defence and was met well at the back post. From an attacking point of view it must be considered a good goal but from a visitors view it was disappointing.

Rangers fought back well and did create a couple of half chances whilst the home side fared little better. However, the lead was doubled in the 22nd minute when a speculative shot deflected of Jon’s head and looped over a stranded Andrew.

Just four minutes later, a poor period of defending gifted the home side a third and eventually decisive goal when the ball should perhaps have cleared from the danger area a little more convincingly. Rangers players did not let their heads drop and they had pulled a goal back within two minutes. Man-of-the-match Karn rounded the last man at pace and placed the ball into the bottom left hand corner to inspire something of a comeback.

On the stroke of half time, the visitors were right back in the contest when Karn rifled a shot at the New Milton keeper. Unable to hold the ball the keeper’s parry fell to Ashley who despite having more time than he realised, stroked the ball home with his left foot.

The second half was played in good spirit and the visitors perhaps shaded it creating the better chances. However, a misunderstanding in defence with ten minutes to go left a quick-reacting forward with a simple tap-in to secure the points for the home side.

One other matter which needs comment is the injury following a tackle to one of the home players. We would just like to send our best wishes and hope that the player concerned is not suffering too many ill-effects.
